Pondhead Farm situated at the
heart of the New Forest is a traditionally run New Forest Commoner's
holding owned and ran by Gerald and Patricia Mabbutt. Commoning is a
tradition which predates the declaration of the "Nova Foresta" as a
Royal Hunting Reserve by the Crown in 1069; its roots having been
founded by the early Celtic Agriculturalists who "turned out"
domesticated Hogs and Oxon onto the forest wastes
.
From our holding we strive to
continue this practice; by farming this unique region we hope to ensure
the ecology of the New Forest National Park is maintained in
equilibrium. We do so with our herd of New Forest Ponies, reputed to be
the second eldest on the perambulation, our pedigree herd of Hereford
Cattle and our herd of Saddleback Pigs..
Through this site we hope to
provide you with an insight into this unique agrarian tradition and
provide you with an opportunity to purchase the fruits of our labour -
100% Natural New Forest Beef, Pork and Venison.
If you wish to pay the farm a visit
yourself or stay longer we offer camping at the weekends.
